On a recent jaunt back to Indiana……

Two of my younger brothers have decided to stock up survival gear. Apparently some friends relatives are propagating the idea of a breakdown in world commerce and life as well, a modern survival of the fittest, or most prepared. Anyway, a couple of my younger brothers bought it, and I do mean bought it. They have been obsessed with finding, researching and purchasing all sorts of survival gear, all that must fit into their backpack.
They claim that they don’t necessarily believe that anything will happen that will force them to use their gear but they quote “Those who fail to prepare, prepare to fail” Hard to argue with that.
I find myself more willing to listen to the advice my older brother gave another younger sibling that was also considering stocking up on gear. He said: “You don’t need to waste your money on all the gear like your brothers, just get yourself a good knife and if the crisis actually arises, you can “end up” with both of your brother’s survival packs without wasting a penny of your own”.

On a different topic; all of us older boys went shopping at the mall the other day. (Yeah, guys do go shopping) For the most part, my brothers spend all of their time at Dick’s sporting goods store(survival gear, you know), also for a few minutes at B&N picking up a book for their mother.
I went book shopping at B&N and then finished up at JC Penney’s 70% off sale and purchased a sweater vest to go along with my glasses and general “geek” look I use once in a while.
We also stopped at Wal-Mart and I observed once again the tendency for my brothers to “herd”. Several times I discovered them all congregating in the same aisle, both at Dick’s and here. However, I found it quite amusing, after looking around for them, to find all of them gathered in the underwear aisle at Wal-Mart, the funny thing is that they weren’t even buying anything, they just happened to all end up there when discussing something.
I suppose I can’t laugh much though, while talking on the phone and wondering through Wal-Mart I have found myself, when I finally hang up the phone, all too often in the Barbie aisle with little girls and their mothers looking up at me oddly “Umm…I …ummm…”(mumble something about looking for my little sister and quickly walk away).......
